PET OF THE MONTH

SEPTEMBER 2009

Rufus was a rescue puppy, adopted on June 27th. His new owner brought him to us on July 1st and he was a very sick little puppy. He was diagnosed with Parvovirus, a very serious viral disease in dogs. Parvo causes loss of the lining of the intestinal tract. The intestinal damage results in severe dehydration, electrolyte imbalances and infection in the bloodstream. Rufus was hospitalized in our isolation ward for nine days and was lucky to survive the deadly virus. Of course we all fell in love with him while he was staying with us, he's such a sweet boy and very outgoing, especially when he started feeling better. Rufus was just back for a wellness visit at the end of August and has more than doubled in weight (he had lost about 30% body weight during his illness). We are all so happy with his recovery and so excited to see him healthy and growing bigger every day. We just knew he had to be September's Pet of the Month. Congratulations to Rufus and his very dedicated and loving owner!
