PET OF THE MONTH

OCTOBER 2009

Apollo T. Beau
(Bowie)

Bowie is one of our "regulars" who boards with us often. He is one of the sweetest dogs you could ever hope to meet. He actually smiles. He's adorable when he does that because he will also get all squirmy and cuddly. We just love him here (nobody could resist this sweetheart). You can see Bowie in the picture above all snuggled up in his bed while he was boarding here. He loves to be cozy.

Bowie was recently injured and in quite a bit of pain with a back injury, something unfortunately common in Dachshunds. He was examined by the doctor here and diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease.  Bowie was sent home with pain medication and strict instructions for bed rest. His devoted parents took wonderful care of him while he was healing. After 6 weeks of bed rest and medication Bowie was seen again by the doctor who noted that he was still exhibiting signs of pain with a hunched back. The radiographs showed numerous compressed disc spaces and the doctor recommended that Bowie start Hydrotherapy to rebuild the muscles which protect the back. He got the hang of the underwater treadmill quickly and within three sessions there was marked improvement in his gait.  By his tenth session he was back to normal. We are very happy that Bowie is out of pain and can concentrate on being the happy-go-lucky fellow he's always been.

Congratulations to Bowie for being October's Pet of the Month!
